When I was in my high-school days I really wanted a Mitsubishi Lancer O.Z. Ralliart. My whole method of thinking was I get fast and furious looks but to my parents and insurance company it’s just a plain 4 door sedan. Now I see one and just think of how stupid I was to ever want one haha.

I bought one new in 2002. Pearl white OZ Rally, manual trans, all options. It was about $24k all in and one nice little car. The second new car I bought was an 08 GTS, I was one of the lucky few to get the 5MT with nav, spoiler and 18" wheels. It was also a nice little car. I like Lancers and want to get an Evolution some day

I really wanted a Celica GT-S for years. Now I look down upon my middle school self for ever wanting one (I still secretly want one, don’t tell)

Ford EXP. As a kid I thought it looked cool.
I saw a Lancer OZ either yesterday or the day before. Red paint had faded to pink.

When I started high school, this had just come out:
I liked the look, the 210 supercharged horsepower (hey, it was the end of the malaise era) 5 speed manual, and none more black.
Later I would learn it was an overweight lardo with fragile suspension controls, and styling which didn’t age well.

Countach/Diablo .... They are uncomfortable, difficult to drive, and not very good sports cars. At this point I think the Gallardo is Lamborghini’s best effort - you could DD one. But I’ve driven exactly none of these cars, so who knows?

Haha, cars I wanted in high school are the only cars I’ve bought since graduating college in 2010. It’s kind of my philosophy for buying cars, plus deprecation is a wonderful thing.

No shame. I suppose I could say I wanted a normal one, but honestly, this one would have done just fine. Especially if Frankie Muniz came with it.

Ooh I remember when I thought I could just get OZ rally instead of Evo. It had wheels and a spoiler, so I was in. Then I got base Lancer.

As a kid I always wanted a ‘91 Corvette in BRIGHT red. I had a toy one (probably in a box) and it’s also my birth year. Now I know to only get a C4 ZR1 if that. I have a love hate relationship with the interior of these.

Yeah, came here to post the same.
Had the Countach poster on the wall as a kid and thought it was the coolest item to own. Now I`m not so sure anymore.
Look, it’s not the car...It’s me... ;-)

Can’t really say it’s because I grew up, because I still think it looks awesome, but after driving the truck version, I can say with 100% certainty I don’t want one. Though, I do retract my statement of these being the most vague driving vehicles ever, the Aveo takes that crown.

Those were supposed to be really good! That’s not dumb at all.
I used to want a convertible. Then I moved out of WA to a place where you can actually use a convertible, and realized that convertibles end up in sunburn, mouthfuls of loose hair and sadness. Roofs 4 lyfe.

I’d gladly drive any of the cars that were on my wall as a kid, no denying it. I wanted a Ford Probe when I was about 7-8 years old, a Nissan Pathfinder around the same time, then a Porsche 996. I owned the descendent of the Probe for 8 years and loved it for what it was (plus, had it not been for that car, I wouldn’t own my FoST).
Another disturbing thing I could mention, while I'm airing dirty laundry here, is that I have always been short and my dream was to make a Pathfinder into a sort of mini-RV that I could live in down by the river. Yeah, I was dreaming of being the loser I am all the way back then.

Around 1997 or so, I thought the then-current Suburban was the coolest vehicle possible, especially a Suburban 1500 4x4 in forest green with tan leather. I later shifted my desires toward the 4-door Tahoe, and then the 2-door Tahoe since it was available with a diesel engine. Later still I grew up and realized that an antiquated, full-size, body-on-frame SUV had nothing substantial to offer me.

Even in the earlier stages of my life, I think I’d still want a bit of comfort. Maybe one day I’ll find an opportunity to drive a Gallardo and see if I’m right.

Back before graduating H.S. in 1998, I asked my dad to get a Toyota. We went to the dealership and I saw a Supra, got totally denied. When I asked for a 4Runner, his exact response with thick spanish accent “Stoopid! Dats for de people dat live on de farms. We live in Jersey City, not Jersey Farm”
I wanted all kinds of car growing up, from a Geo Tracker to a Ford Probe but one of the wierdest likes...The Amigo!

Don’t know about the Pathfinder, but I can sleep pretty comfortably in the back of 4Runner, and they are about the same size. Cut a memory foam mattress into shape, build some shelving, add a battery, install a roof rack, and live down by the river in decent comfort.

Steve in Manhattan, do it! It is one of the best life experiences driving a Lambo Gallardo or Ferrari 599. We did it with Gotham Dream Car and their tour https://www.gothamdreamcars.com/dream-car-tour
Drove two Lambos, Ferrari, M6, Bentley, Mercedes SLS (the best sounding out of all).

As a kid who knew nothing about cars, I thought that this was as cool as it gets. I’d still like something with this basic shape, but now I dream of an MR2 instead.

An Alabaster white Chrysler Crossfire coupe. Saw one at a cars & coffee with my dad when I was 10 (2005), then I saw the pop up spoiler go up with the center exit exhaust. I freaked when that spoiler went up, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. I know there are better cars, but the Crossfire is always in the back of my mind.

It has the worst powerband for any DOHC powered car I've ever been in but I was very impressed with the quality of the leather.

For me it’s not about what the car’s faults or strengths are. It’s the character and personality of a Lamborghini - especially of a Countach - I can’t identify with anymore. This isn’t me:
Nowadays I like my performance cars a bit more subdued. So when I’m dreaming about owning a late 80's car with 12 cylinders I’m thinking about something like this for example:

I can’t argue with any of that ...

03/20/2016 at 17:36 | 0 |
To make it an argument I would ask you whether comfort is really important in a Countach? But it’s pointless to argue about that since we both don’t have a clue how uncomfortable the car really is...
So I’m just glad that there wasn’t an argument here. Just stating of oppinions about great cars we’ll propably never drive and definitely don’t have a chance to own. Ever...

Oh we do ... I sat in one at an auto show. When you get the wheel to the right place the pedals , the seat barely adjusts, and the rake is unadjustable if I recall correctly. And, as James may showed us, it’s impossible to look cool getting in or out of one.

Yes! The Countach is trying too hard that’s why I don’t think the Countach is cool. On the other hand almost no car or object is cool. It’s the combination of man and object that has to match to make coolness happen. I could own and play Hendrix’s favorite guitar, but it wouldn’t make me any cooler. That’s my biggest argument for not owning a Countach. We are a missmatch. I’d feel ridiculous climbing in and out of it and wouldn’t feel comfortable with the attention the Lambo - not me - would attract.
But reviewers and owners seem to be devided on the matter of the weaknesses you mentioned. James isn’t a fan while Harry Metcalfe doesn’t appear to be bothered too much about the faults. (Love his vids about his car!)

This came out when I was 6. I was obsessed with these for years. Now? I don’t think anything of it and don’t care for them.
